Condensation Damp
There are many causes of Condensation damp. Some quite surprising. Cooking, washing the dishes, washing and drying clothes,bathing and showering,cleaning and believe it or not, breathing.

Penetrating Damp
The most common causes of penetrating damp are damaged roof tiles or felt,defective flashing around chimneys, cracks in render or brick joints, damaged or blocked guttering, rotting wood and gaps around doors and window frames.

Rising Damp
The most common causes of rising damp are defective or non existent damp proof course in your walls. They are typically made of plastic or bitumen and prevent moisture rising through the structure. It can be often damaged by building works or by the ground around the house being higher than the damp proof course.

Awaab’s Law
Awaab's Law, coming into effect for social landlords on October 27, 2025, aims to improve safety and quality in social housing by ensuring landlords address hazards like damp and mould within set timeframes. The law will require landlords to investigate and repair these hazards, with specific deadlines for different types of issues, including 24-hour turnaround for emergency repairs.
